(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar ACHA D1 hockey team played a two game series vs. the Rochester Warriors this weekend, and the Cougars would come away victorious in both games.
In Game 1 vs. Rochester: Nowell Snarey opened his scoring account early in the 1st period, when his shot from distance went into the net to score the period's only goal. Wes Smith assisted on the play, and it was Snarey's first career goal. Cam Thomas would score in the 2nd period, with assists from Snarey and Joe Heinzelman, and Jonny Gardiner extended the lead, with an assist from Brendyn Galloner, to make the score 3-0. After Rochester scored a late goal, Zack Wiener kept the lead at three, with an assist from Ben Gledhow and Brendyn Galloner, to make the scoe 4-1 after 2 periods. Justin Reddy scored a goal, with assists from Marc Alexander and Zack Wiener to extend the lead to 5-1. A final Rochester goal cut into the deficit, but Zach Eakes scored, with assists from Josh Aitken and Dalton Cummings.
Tyler Krasofsky picked up the win, making 17 saves in the game.
In Game 2 at Rochester: A Ben Gledhow goal, with assists from Jonny Gardiner and Erik Wafer was the only goal of the 1st period. Justin Reddy extended the lead, with assists from Alessandro Nicastro and Dalton Cummings, and Zack Wiener scored, with assists from Wes Smith and Joe Heinzelman, to make it 3-0 heading into the final period. The final 20 minutes was all Cleary, as the visitors scored four goals to take a 7-0 lead. Those goals came from Jonny Gardiner, Wes Smith, Alessandro Nicastro, and Zach Perry.
Koby Kebbe earned the shutout victory, and the first shutout of the season for Cleary.
Cleary is now 10-18, 7-13 in the WHAC. The Cougars will play a makeup on Wednesday vs. Aquinas, followed by the originally scheduled two game series vs. the Saints on Friday and Saturday. With 10 wins, it marks the first time in program history to reach double-digit victories in a season.
