(Fort Wayne, IN)-- The #6 seed Cleary Cougar ACHA hockey team saw their season come to an end, as they fell in the WHAC quarterfinals to the #3 seed Lawrence Tech Blue Devils Friday evening in Fort Wayne.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first period, but Cleary would strike first in the second period to take a 1-0 lead. Levi Herauf scored on the power play, with assists from Cam Thomas and Nowell Snarey, to give the upset minded Cougars the lead. Cleary would have their chances to extend the lead, with multiple 5-on-3 power play advantages, but the Blue Devils' defense stood tall, and the lead would stay at one goal. Those missed chances proved costly, as Lawrence Tech would equalize with 9 seconds left in the second period to tie the game.
In the third period, LTU struck, and struck often, scoring five straight goals to take a commanding 6-1 lead. Cleary would get one back, when Brendyn Galloner scored on the power play, with an assist from Dalton Cummings, but it would be too little too late for the Cougars.
Tyler Krasofsky suffered the loss in goal, as he made 32 saves on 38 shots faced.
Lawrence Tech advances to face the #2 seed UM-Dearborn Wolverines Saturday evening. Cleary finishes the season 11-21 overall.
