(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougars ACHA Division 1 hockey team had their second straight weekend vs. a nationally ranked opponent, as they faced off with the #8 ranked Indiana Tech Warriors this weekend.
In Game 1: The Warriors scored three goals in a matter of 5 minutes to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the 1st period. The Cougars had some chances, as Jonny Gardiner and Dalton Cummings both had breakaway opportunities, but were held in check each time. After a scoreless 2nd period, Indiana Tech scored the dagger on a power play to make the score 4-0. That score would hold through the final horn.
Tyler Krasofsky suffered the loss in goal, as he made 46 saves on 50 shots. Indiana Tech was 2/4 on the power play, while the Cougars went 0-5. Cleary was outshot 50-25 in the game.
In Game 2: Once again, the Warriors jumped out to a 3 goal lead in the 1st period, scoring all three goals over a 10 minute period. After Indiana Tech scored their 4th goal, Cleary scored twice to narrow the deficit to 4-2. Zach Wiener got on the board with an assist from Marc Alexander on a power play, and 8 minutes later, Levi Herauf scored his 1st career goal on a power play, with assists from Matt Elgart and Cam Thomas. Indiana Tech would score once more before the end of the 2nd period, and led 5-2 going into the final 20 minutes.
After giving up two goals in the first two minutes of the 3rd period, Devon Campbell scored a shorthanded goal to make the score 7-3. The Warriors flexed their muscles, and added three more goals for good measure, and won game 2 10-3.
Tyler Krasofsky suffered the loss, allowing 10 goals on 50 shots faced. Indiana Tech outshot the Cougars 50-15 in the game.
Cleary drops to 0-8, 0-4 in the WHAC. The Cougars will be back in action next Friday and Saturday with a two game series against the Concordia Cardinals. Game 1 will be at Arcic Edge Ice Arena at 8:30 PM, and Game 2 will be at 140 Ice Den, with the puck dropping at 8:00 PM.
