In Game 1 vs. Rochester Christian: Cleary honored their 7 seniors prior to warm-ups, and sent them out in style, as they scored no fewer than four goals in each period. Blair Krawchyk would get things started when he scored, with assists from Luke St. Ledger and Dylan Tammadge. RCU would equalize three minutes later, but the Cougars responded with twelve unanswered goals. Dylan Tammadge, JC Garbacik, and Bailey Ewonus would each score in the first period to give the Cougars a 4-1 lead through one period.
In the second period, Collin Kerchoff, Bennett Sheppard, Tommy Madden, and JC Garbacik would score, to make it 8-1.
In the third period, Tommy Madden, JC Garbacik, Luke St. Ledger, Collin Kerchoff, and and Luke Jenkins scored, to make it 13-1. Kerchoff's goal came on the lone power play of the game, and Luke Jenkins' goal was his first career goal.
Though Nick Meyering got the start, Ryan Nickerson would get the win in goal, making 11 saves on 12 shots faced.
In Game 2 at Rochester Christian: Where Friday's game was relatively tame, Saturday's was the opposite, as the first period alone featured 17 penalties, 82 penalty minutes, and 3 game misconducts. The craziness led to a scoreless 0-0 first period. The Cougars would wake up in the second, when Dylan Tammadge scored two minutes into the action, with assists from Jared Salminen and Tommy Madden. Mason Blow doubled the lead, with assists from JC Garbacik and Landen Engles, and Bennett Sheppard scored, with assists from Luke Jenkins and Avery Byron, to make it 3-0 through two periods.
In the third period, Bailey Ewonus scored the Cougars' first power play goal, with assists from Ethan Lindle and Jared Salminen. Brett Woolcott would score the third goal, with an assist from Dylan Tammadge, while Tommy Madden scored the fourth goal, with assists from Bailey Ewonus and Jared Salminen. Bennett Sheppard scored the game's fifth and final goal, with an assist from Blair Krawchyk, to give Cleary a 7-0 victory.
Vincent Parent would earn the shutout victory in net, making 18 saves on 18 shots faced. The two teams combined for 188 penalty minutes on 36 penalties in game two.
Cleary would outscore Rochester Christian 20-1 in the two games, and scored 55 total points across the two games.
The sweep, combined with a UM-Dearborn shootout victory over Indiana Tech, puts the Cougars in first place with four WHAC games remaining.
Cleary will next be in action for a non-conference series against the Northwood Timberwolves. Cleary will host game one next Friday, January 30, at 140 Ice Den for an 8:00 PM puck drop, and will travel to Midland Saturday for game two.
