(Howell, MI)-- The Lawrence Tech Blue Devils came into Lake Trust Stadium tied for first in the WHAC, but they did not leave in first place, as the Cleary Cougar men's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory on Homecoming.
Cleary's big break came in the 27th minute, when Santino Savastano-Farr drew a foul in the penalty area. Lesman Morazan stood over the ensuing penalty kick, and easily converted for his 12th goal of the season, and giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead. Lawrence Tech amped up the pressure, creating one fantastic triple save sequence from Austin Freemire and the Cougar backline to preserve the shutout, as the Blue Devils were unable to find the back of the net.
Austin Freemire earned the victory, making 10 saves in the game on 10 shots faced. Cleary was outshot 24-8 in the game (10-4 on goal). LTU held the advantage on corner kicks by a 4-3 margin, and Cleary committed 12 fouls to the Blue Devils' 7.
The win gives Cleary a 5-6-3 record overall, 2-3-2 in the WHAC. The Cougars will hit the road to Ft. Wayne on Wednesday, October 18, as they take on the Indiana Tech Warriors in a WHAC matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
