(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougars ACHA Divison 1 hockey team opened up the 2022-23 season with a pair of games against the Cavlin College Knights.
In Game 1 at Calvin: Calvin opened the game with plenty of pressure and shots on goalie Tyler Krasofsky. Krasofsky stood tall, and eventually led to a Cam Thomas breakaway where he was taken down from behind to give the Cougars a power play. The Knight penalty kill held on, and the game remained scoreless. Calvin would take a 1-0 lead late in the period. In the second period, Calving took a 2-0 lead on a one-timer. Later in the period, Wes Smith committed a penalty to prevent a breakaway, but the resulting power play resulted in a goal, and gave the Knights a 3-0 lead. Cleary would have another great opportunity to score, as they drew a pair of penalties to go on a 5-3 power play, but when the first power play ended, it gave the Knights a shorthanded breakaway, and they were able to score to make the game 4-0. The Cougars were unable to get anything going in the final period, and the Knights added three more goals to take a 7-0 lead, and the game.
