Women's Lacrosse Falls Twice Over Weekend
The Cleary Cougars Women's Lacrosse team fell in two road games over the weekend, one Friday evening against the Aquinas College Saints, and one Saturday afternoon against the Siena Heights University Saints.
In Game 1: Cleary jumped out to an early lead, thanks in part to capitalizing on free position shots and being a man up with goals from Sydney Dickerson, Jordan Bloch, and Mallory Tognetti as Cleary was up 4-2. Aquinas would answer with a goal run of their own, quickly tying the game, and taking the lead, one the Saints were able to expand to 11-5 at the half.
Cleary would start the second half much the same way they started the game, going on a 4-2 run to narrow the gap, and eventually getting it as close as 15-12, but the Cougars couldn't overcome the deficit, falling 17-13.
Cleary was led by Sydney Dickerson who tallied a game high 6 goals, while Jordan Bloch added 5 goals for the Cougars. Anna Clark made 13 saves in front of the net for Cleary.
In Game 2: The Cougars went on the road to take on the #10 ranked Siena Heights Saints, and SHU would flex their muscles early, opening the game on an 8-2 run, with Cougar goals from Sydney Dickerson and Jordan Bloch. The two teams would trade goals, but then SHU would go on a 7-0 run to finish the half and take a 19-4 lead.
Cleary's Jordan Bloch opened the second half with a goal, and that would be the last time Cleary would find the back of the net, as SHU went on to win 25-5.
Cleary was led by Jordan Bloch and Sydney Dickerson who tallied 2 goals a piece, while Mallory Tognetti added the only other Cougar goal. Anna Clark made 9 saves in the effort.
With the 2 losses, Cleary drops to 1-4 overall and in WHAC-tion.
Cleary will next be in action next Saturday, April 10, when they host the Concordia Cardinals at Lake Trust Stadium. The game is scheduled to start at 12:00 pm.
