Cougars Win Twice in Match Play to Finish in 9th at WHAC Fall Preview
(Augusta, MI)-- The Cleary Cougars women's golf team played 54 holes of golf this week, and ultimately finished in 9th place at the WHAC Fall Preview at Stonehedge North Golf Club in Augusta, Michigan.
In the 18-hole Stroke Play Round:
- Olivia Root shot an 84 (+12) to finish in a tie for 16th
- Lauryn Jerke shot a 92 to finish in a tie for 34th
- Alexis Sharplin posted a 97 to tie for 42nd
- Madeline Swett shot a 98 to tie for 45th
- Maryann Montgomery shot a 100 to tie for 48th
As a team, the Cougars shot 371 and earned the 9th seed heading into Monday's 18-hole match play round, where they were paired with the Rochester Warriors.
In the Match vs. Rochester:
- Olivia Root won her match 7&6
- Madeline Swett won her match 6&4
- Alexis Sharplin won her match 10&8
- Lauryn Jerke won her match 10&8
- Maryann Montgomery earned the full point as Rochester did not have a 5th golfer
Cleary defeated Rochester 5-0 in match play to put themselves in the 9th place match vs. UM-Dearborn, who won their match 4-1 vs. Concordia.
In the Match vs. UM-Dearborn:
- Olivia Root won her match 5&4
- Madeline Swett lost her match 3&2
- Alexis Sharplin lost her match 1 down
- Lauryn Jerke won her match 8&7
- Maryann Montgomery won her match 7&5
Cleary defeated UM-Dearborn 3-2 to claim 9th place overall. The Cougars will be back in action on Thursday, October 6, when they play in the LTU Invite at Farmington Hills GC in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
