The Cleary Cougars softball team was in action for the final time this season Friday afternoon, as they traveled to Fort Wayne to take on the Indiana Tech Warriors in their WHAC season finale.
In Game 1: Indiana Tech would take the lead in the first inning on an RBI groundout, and then added three more runs over the next five innings to take a 4-0 lead. An Olivia DeJohn RBI ground out would score Ashleigh Tatara to make the score 4-1, but the Warriors would answer in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring five runs to take the game 9-1.
Kami Linton would suffer the loss allowing 9 runs on 11 hits in 5 and 2/3 innings. Brooke Williams went 2/3 at the plate.
In Game 2: An Olivia DeJohn first inning double would score Brooke Williams to give Cleary a 1-0 lead. Mckenzie Latshaw would single to score Ashleigh Tatara in the second inning, while a Brooke Williams single would score Paulina O'Donohue. Olivia De John would keep the rally going a little longer with an RBI groundout that scored Arianna Hagen, and Clary would lead 4-0 after two innings. Indiana Tech would storm back, scoring eight unanswered runs to take an 8-4 lead heading into the 5th inning. A Summer Smith single would score Ashleigh Tatara to narrow the gap, and later in the inning Paulina O'Donohue would score on a double steal, making the score 8-6 in favor of the Warriors. After an Indiana Tech run in the bottom of the fifth inning, Cleary would score three runs in the top of the sixth to tie the game. Carley Kalbfleisch would single to score Grace Polega, followed by a bases-loaded walk from Paulina O'Donohue and Arianna Hagen to tie the game at 9-9. After neither team would score in the 7th inning, Cleary was held scoreless in the 8th and Indiana Tech would take advantage in the bottom half of the inning. After loading the bases, Indiana Tech would hit a game-winning walk-off grand slam to win the game 13-9.
Haley Ludwig would suffer the loss, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits in 3 innings of work. Brooke Williams went 3/4 at the plate, while Ashleigh Tatara added 2 hits and 2 runs for the Cougars.
Cleary finishes the season 11-26 overall, and 5-15 in the WHAC.
