(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar softball team made it back to the Lake Wednesday, as they took on the Racers of UNOH to break in April in a doubleheader.
In Game 1: UNOH started out strong in the top of the 1st, scoring three runs to take the lead. Unable to respond in the bottom of the first, UNOH scored another two in the top of the second. Mckenzie Latshaw was able to hit a single, but was unable to reach home to gain a run. Kami Linton was able to pause the Racers in the third inning, and Cleary made it onto the board with Brooke Williams scoring off a wild pitch after singles from Williams and Olivia DeJohn's. A quiet fourth inning would wake up UNOH in the fifth as they scored two more runs on the game. This would end the scoring for the game, with a runless sixth and seventh innings.
Kami Linton would suffer the loss in Game 1 and Brooke Williams would score the single run of the game for the Cougars.
In Game 2: UNOH would get the ground running to start Game 2 off with two runs again. A scoreless bottom of the first for Cleary, allowed the Racers to score three more runs at the jump of the second inning. In the bottom of the sixth, Brooke Williams was able to hit a home run to put the Cougars on the board. Then a quick seventh inning would close the game out to 5-1 for UNOH.
Jade Kupsky would throw for 5 innings and Haley Ludwig would suffer the finishing of the loss.
Brooke Williams would have her first career home run during this game.
The Cougars will be back on the road on Saturday, April 4, as they travel to Grand Rapids to take on Aquinas. The doubleheader is set to start at 1:00PM.
