Cougars Win For 2nd Dual Win This Season
(Pinckney, MI)-- The Cleary University wrestling team picked up their second dual win of the season after they defeated the Mott Community College Bears 21-9 at the Pathfinder School in Pinckney Thursday evening.
Jordan Piercy opened up the match in a difficult 8-5 decision in the 125 lb division, improving in a rematch from a week ago in which he lost his match in a major decision to the same wrestler. The loss put Cleary down 3-0. After not having a wrestler available in the 133 lb division, Mott took an early 9-0 lead overall. Jace Ellis came up in the 144 lb division, and earned a pin in just 24 seconds to help Cleary narrow the gap to 9-6, and would begin a stretch of 21 unanswered team points to finish the match.
Ryan Weaver wrestled in the 149 lb division and took a 6-5 decision. Hunter Kasey wrestled in the 157 lb division and won an 8-1 decision, narrowly missing out on earning an extra point for a major decision, and David Emch wrestled in the 165 lb division taking a 10-3 decision. Jacob Spiess earned 6 points in a forfeit to round out the scorers for the Cougars. Neither team wrestled in the 174, 184, and 197 lb divisions, so no team points were awarded.
The team dual win marks the second this season, already setting a program record for dual wins in a season. Cleary still has matches in 2022 to set the mark even higher. Cleary will take a break for the holidays, and will next be in action on Saturday, January 8, when they participate in the Waynesburg Open at Waynesburg University.
