(Howell, MI)-- It was a physical affair, and both teams could say they should have scored, but only the visiting Cornerstone Golden Eagles were able to put the ball in the back of the net, as they defeated the Cleary Cougars 1-0 Saturday evening at Lake Trust Stadium.
Cornerstone would get on the board in the 21st minute, as they beat the defense and crossed the ball to a lone Golden Eagle to score the game's only goal. Cleary had their best chance to tie the game in the 35th minute, when Lesman Morazan was pulled down in the box for a penalty. Jack Heald would step up to take the kick, and the Golden Eagle keeper made the save, to keep the game 1-0.
The two teams played a defensive minded game for the remainder, with many fouls and yellow cards given, but it would be the Golden Eagles leaving victorious.
Austin Freemire allowed 1 goal on 1 shot faced in the game. Cleary held a 13-7 shot advantage (4-1 on target), and also held a 10-2 corner kick advantage. There were 37 fouls called in the game, and 8 yellow cards handed out.
Cleary drops to 4-4-2 overall, 1-1-1 in the WHAC. The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday, October 4, when they travel to Ann Arbor to take on Concordia in a WHAC matchup. Kickoff is set for 2:00 PM.
