Men's Basketball Unable to Cool Down Hot Shooting Indiana Tech
(Fort Wayne, IN)-- The Cleary Cougar men's basketball team was in action Tuesday evening, and faced off with one of the WHAC's best, as they took on the Indiana Tech Warriors in Fort Wayne.
The Cougars defense was under pressure from the opening tip, as the Warriors were able to generate multiple quality chances, opening the game on a 27-10 run. It would go from bad to worse for the Cougars, as the Indiana Tech lead grew to more than twenty points by the 6:22 mark of the first half. Back to back baskets by Bennie Crenshaw Jr., including one from behind the arc, made it a 46-27 game with under 5:00 to play in the half. Cleary would cut into the lead further with 1:51 to play after a dunk by Tim Kewley made it 47-31. Indiana Tech would respond down the stretch, finishing the half on an 8-0 run, and the score would be 55-31 at the break.
Cleary would cut the deficit to twenty points to start the second half, thanks to baskets by Derrick Miller and Nick Ellis. Once again, the Warriors would respond, going on another run to extend their lead to an insurmountable margin. Cleary would narrow the game some late, but it would not be the Cougars' night, as the game ended with a final score of 103-73.
Bennie Crenshaw Jr. and Levi McKenzie each led the Cougars with 12 points. Amare Slaughter would had 10 points off the bench. Twelve different Cougars scored in the game.
Cleary now holds a 1-6 record overall, and are 1-2 in the WHAC. The Cougars will return to action after Thanksgiving with a road game against the UM-Dearborn Wolverines next Wednesday, December 3. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM.
