Cougar Overwatch2 Team Claims WHAC Tournament Championship; Season Awards Announced
(Fort Wayne, IN)-- The Cleary Cougar Overwatch2 esports team made history Saturday, as they claimed the game's first conference championship in school history, joining last year's League of Legends team, as conference champions.
The Cougars came into the Saturday's conference tournament as the number two seed, as they had finished the regular season 6-1, with the only loss to #1 seed Indiana Tech.
In the first round matchup, Cleary defeated #7 seed Lourdes by a 3-0 margin. In the semifinals, Cleary took on #3 seed Siena Heights, and won by a 3-0 margin to advance to the championship match against the #1 seed Indiana Tech Warriors.
The championship match was a best-of-seven series, and the Cougars avenged their earlier season loss with a dominant 4-0 series, to claim the championship.
Also announced at the tournament were the postseason awards, and Cleary would see all five Overwatch2 starters named to the first or second team.
Earning First Team All-Conference honors was Flynn "Flynn" Murray, Zachary "Redegade" Richmond, and Elijah "Smackes" Recinos. Earing Second Team All-Conference Honors was Nathan "Pancake" Debol and Henry "Grusha" Fuchs.
