(Fairborn, OH)-- The Cleary Cougar baseball team returned to the diamond for a pair of games against the Wright State-Lake Lakers Friday afternoon.
In Game 1: Joey Parinello hit a solo home run in the top of the second to give Cleary a 1-0 lead. Brendan Seman would single home Conner Boone later in the inning, as the Cougars held a 2-0 lead. The Lakers would strike with a bases loaded walk in the bottom half of the inning, and then added three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 4-2 lead. Cleary's offense would be held in check the rest of the way, as neither team would score, and the game ended with a 4-2 score.
Hector Montilla would suffer the loss, allowing 4 runs on 1 hit in 3.2 innings. Bryson Roberts threw 2.1 innings in relief without allowing a hit. Brendan Seman would go 2/4 at the plate in the game.
In Game 2: Wright State would take a 2-0 lead after their half of the first inning resulted in a pair of runs. Cleary answered in the top of the second, scoring three runs, thanks to a Joey Parinello single, and a Jake VanderHaar double. Joey Parinellow would come around in the third, hitting another RBI single to help the runs keep rolling in. Cleary would extend their lead to seven runs after they tacked on four runs in the third, four more in the fourth, and two in the fifth. The Lakers narrowed the gap some late, but it was far too much to overcome, as Cleary went on to win 16-7.
Cleary used a quintet of pitchers to earn the victory, with Griffey Dye and Darion Amico combining for 2.1 innings of near perfect baseball. Joey Parinello led the Cleary offense with a 3/5 day, 3 runs scored, and 5 RBI. Braylon Hughes went 2/3 with 4 RBI and 2 runs, while Landon Kempainen went 2/3 with 4 runs scored.
Cleary is now 7-5 on the season, and will play their first home games of the season on Sunday, March 8, when they host the Wright State-Lake Lakers in games three and four of their weekend series. First pitch for game one is set for 1:00 PM.
