Baseball Drops Both Games in Day Two Doubleheader

(Westfield, IN)-- The Cleary Cougar baseball team played a second doubleheader Tuesday against the Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars, and were unfortunately defeated in both games.

In Game 1: After a quick first two and a half innings, MVNU would get the first two batters of the third inning on base.  They would each be advanced on a sacrifice bunt, and later were brought home to score on a RBI single, to make the score 2-0.  In the top of the seventh, Landon Kempainen would hit a lead-off triple, and later scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-1.  One batter later, Brice Wesley hita bomb over the left field fence to tie the game at 2-2.  In the bottom of the seventh, MVNU would load the bases, and drew a two-out walk to score the winning run, handing Cleary a 3-2 defeat.

Brendan Seman would throw a complete game, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits with 7 strikeouts in 6.2 innings.  Brodie Mackay would go 2/3 at the plate, while Landon Kempainen, Brice Wesley, and Austin Vincent each added a hit apiece.

In Game 2:  Cleary would load the bases in the top of the first, setting up a bases loaded walk by Ryan Rose to give Cleary a 1-0 lead.  The rally would end there, however, with Cleary leaving runners stranded.  MVNU would take advantage of the opportunity, and scored five runs in the bottom half of the inning.  Cleary would once again load the bases in the top of the second, and scored one run on a Brendan Seman sacrifice fly, but MVNU would get out of the jam once again.  Mount Vernon Nazarene would hold Cleary in check, and scored some insurance runs late to take game two 10-2.

Brendan Seman and Braylon Hughes each had a hit for the Cougars.

Cleary finishes their opening series 1-3, and will return to action this weekend when they travel back to Indiana for a series against the IU-Columbus Crimson Pride.
