Seman and Roberts Both Named All-Conference by WHAC; All-Academic Team Announced
(Howell, MI)-- The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference has announced the All-Conference teams and postseason awards, and multiple Cougars have been recognized.
Brendan Seman becomes the first baseball player to be named First-Team All-Conference since the Cougars joined the WHAC. Seman hit .373 (eighth in the WHAC) with 39 RBI (thirteenth in the WHAC) to lead the Cleary offense. He recorded 63 hits this season (seventh in the WHAC), a single-season school record, while having an on-base percentage of .436, and a slugging percentage of .538 (second on the team; twenty-first in the WHAC). Seman also had a 3-2 record on the mound, with 37 strikeouts (third on the team) and a 4.31 ERA in 39.2 innings pitched. He hit the walk-off RBI single on Sunday, April 27, that clinched a berth in the WHAC Tournament for first time in program history.
Joining Seman on the All-Conference team was teammate Will Roberts, who was named Second-Team All-Conference. Roberts finished the regular season with a 5-1 record and a 4.15 ERA in 56.1 innings pitched, all leading or tied for the lead on the team. He set a school record with 62 strikeouts for the season, surpassing the old mark of 60 set by Garrett Larner, and had an impressive 9.91 K/9-innings. His season was highlighted with a 7-inning complete game no-hitter on March 30. In that game, he walked the first batter before retiring the next 20 batters in a row to face the minimum 21 batters in the game. His efforts earned him both the WHAC and NAIA Pitcher of the Week honors for that game. He also won the WHAC's Pitcher of the Week earlier in the season after recording 10 strikeouts vs. Cincinnati-Clermont.
Chris Hawkins was named as Cleary's representative to the Champions of Character team, which demonstrates the NAIA's core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership. Hawkins joins his counterparts from each team in the WHAC on the Champions of Character team.
