Team Stats
Oakland
(Rochester Hills, MI)-- The Cleary Cougars baseball team took a short trip to take on NCAA Division 1 Oakland University today. Both teams would use this day as a warmup game before conference play starting this week.
The Grizzlies would kick things off right away in the bottom of the 1st inning scoring 4 runs on 3 hits. The Cougars would manage to get out of the inning though leaving the bases loaded and limiting the Grizzly threat. Pitcher Will Roberts would shut down the Grizziles in the 2nd and 3rd innings, striking out 5 batters in his two innings of work. In the 3rd inning, the Cougars would make a push. The scoring would start with Albert Gonzalez walking with the bases loaded scoring Marcel Garcia. Spencer Jamieson would then come up with a big 2-out single scoring Ben Cerven and Max Tomaszewski making it a 4-3 ballgame. Oakland would respond with three straight innings of runs to cushion the lead. They would score 5 runs in the 5th, 1 run in the 6th, and 3 more in the 7th to make it a 13-3 lead. The Cougars would try to push back in the 8th inning. Lance Wiltse would kick things off with a walk in the inning, eventually leading him to score on a walk by Marcel Garcia with the bases loaded. Gavin Kempainen and Ben Cerven would also walk with the bases loaded during the inning scoring Austin Santure and Cedric Russell. The 13-6 lead wasn't enough for Oakland heading into the bottom of the 8th as they would score 6 more runs. The 19-6 lead for Oakland would stick through the 9th inning as the Cougars would go down in order.
The Cougars drop to 2-9 overall on the year. They look to spark things up with their home and conference opener this Saturday, March 16 against UM-Dearbron. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM at Lake Trust Stadium.
