(Toledo, OH)--The Cleary Cougar baseball team
In Game 1: Cleary scored in the top of the 1st when Kristian Scalf was able to score after a Lourdes fielding error. They held that lead into the 3rd, when Lourdes hit a two-out double after a Cleary error that scored two runs, giving the Gray Wolves the lead. In the 7th and needing a run to extend the game, Cleary would load the bases with one out, and Sam Browne drew a bases-loaded walk that scored Zach Agemak, tying the game. Unfortunately, Cleary was unable to take the lead, and Lourdes would get the two outs they needed to get out of the jam. In the bottom of the 7th, Lourdes was able to load the bases, and got a sacrifice fly to score the walk-off run.
Nate Raniszewski suffered the loss, allowing 3 runs (1 ER) on 6 hits while striking out 4 in 6.2 innings. Kristian Scalf went 2/3 with a run and a stolen base.
In Game 2: Billy Flohr tripled home Ben Cerven and Kristian Scalf, and was brought home on an Albert Gonzalez single to give Cleary a 3-0 lead. After Lourdes got a run back, Cleary struck again in the 4th when Zach Agemak brought Spencer Jamieson home on an RBI groundout. In the 5th, Ben Cerven scored when Sam Browne grounded out, giving the Cougars a 5-1 advantage. Lourdes would get in striking distance, cutting the lead to 5-4, but Cleary exploded for 4 runs in the 9th to comfortably hold on for the win.
Jacob Savina picked up his 4th win of the season, allowing 3 runs on 9 hits while striking out 5 in 5.1 innings. Colin Brazil picked up his 7th svae of the year in 1.1 innings. Cleary had four players with a multi-hit game, with Kristian Scalf, Ben Cerven, Sam Browne, and Jesnel Soto leading the way. Scalf would score twice, Cerven three times, and Billy Flohr twice for the Cougars.
Cleary is now 27-18, 16-11 in the WHAC. The Cougars will be back in action next Saturday and Sunday at Lake Trust Stadium to take on the Indiana Tech Warriors with a possible berth to the WHAC Tournament on the line. First pitch for game one is set for 1:00 PM each day.
