Baseball Splits Day One After Walk-Off Win

(Howell, MI)-- There was some late drama at Lake Trust Stadium, as the Cleary Cougars and Lawrence Tech Blue Devils split their series opening double-header Sunday afternoon.
In Game 1: Spencer Jamieson hit his second single of the game in the bottom of the 4th, this time with the bases loaded, to give Cleary a 2-1 lead. After a big 6th inning gave the Blue Devils a 3=2 advantage, Cleary needed a rally in the bottom of the 7th. Marcel Garcia drew a one out walk, followed by a Albert Gonzalez pinch hit walk (Jesnel Soto ran for Gonzalez) to bring up Kristian Scalf. With two outs, and down to their final strike, Scalf doubled to right field, and both Garcia and Soto would score to give the Cougars the walk-off win.
Nate Raniszewski threw a no-decision, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out 4. Ryan Lieng earned the win in relief. Spencer Jamieson went 2/3 with 2 RBI, while Ben Cerven and Kristian Scalf each had one hit apiece.
In Game 2: The Blue Devils jumped all over the Cleary pitching early, scoring in each of the first 5 innings, and seven of the nine played. Kristian Scalf and Ben Cerven each had RBI singles in the bottom of the 2nd, and Jesnel Soto added a 2 RBI single in the 3rd. Marcel Garcia singled home Billy Flohr in the 5th, but that would be the final Cougar run scored.
Noah Bowles suffered the loss, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits in 1 inning pitched. Billy Flohr had a 4/4 game with 2 runs, while Ben Cerven, Ethan Hollister, and Jesnel Soto added two hits.
Cleary is now 15-13, 4-6 in the WHAC. The two teams will do it all over again on Monday, April 3, when they play another double-header at Lake Trust Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
