CUAA's Offense Explodes as Cardinals Sweep Cleary in WHAC Opener

(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougars baseball team welcomed the Concordia Ann Arbor Cardinals to Lake Trust Stadium for a WHAC double-header, but the visitors took advantage of the hospitality, as the Cougars dropped both games in the series.
In Game 1: Andrew Piloske got the Cougars on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 2nd, has he hit a towering home run to left-center field, scoring Sam Browne, and gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead. CUAA would respond with five runs in the 3rd to take a 5-2 lead. Zach Agemak brought Kristian Scalf home on an RBI groundout in the 3rd, and added a bases loaded walk in the 4th to cut into the deficit, but the Cardinals added seven more runs before the game's end to take an 12-5 lead.
Haden Fisk suffered the loss on the mound, allowing 7 runs on 8 hits. Spencer Jamieson went 2/2 at the plate, while Zach Agemak and Andrew Piloske each had 2 RBI.
In Game 2: Cleary spotted CUAA eight runs through the first 3 innings before Kristian Scalf tripled home Spencer Jamieson to make it 8-1. The Cardinals would expand their lead, to 14-2 into the 5th inning. In the 5th, Cleary would narrow the deficit, with a Ben Cerven RBI fielder's choice, a Sam Browne double, and a Billy Flohr grand slam home-run to straightaway center, making the score 14-8. CUAA would once again add bunches of runs, taking a 21-8 lead into the 7th inning. A Lance Wiltse double, followed by a Albert Gonzalez RBI single would end the scoring for both teams.
Jacob Savina suffered the loss, allowing 7 runs on 7 hits. Sam Browne, Billy Flohr, and Marcel Garcia each had two hits to lead the Cougars.
Cleary is now 11-9 overall, 0-2 in the WHAC. The Cougars will be back in action on Tuesday, March 21, when they travel to Grand Rapids to take on the Cornerstone Golden Eagles in a WHAC double-header being made up from Friday.
