Game 2
(Rio Grande, OH)-- The Cleary Cougar baseball team continues to be road warriors, as they made the trek to Ohio to take on the Rio Grande Red Storm in a non-conference series.
In Game 1: Cleary jumped out of the gate early, scoring 3 runs in the 2nd inning. Billy Flohr got things going with a solo home run to left field. Afer Sam Browne singled, Andrew Piloske walked, and Spencer Jamieson walked to load the bases, Marcel Garcia singled to score Browne, extending the Cougar lead to 2-0. Jesnel Soto brought Piloske home on a sacrifice fly to make the score 3-0. After Rio Grande would score in the bottom of the 2nd, Andrew Piloske hit a 2-run home run to left, scoring Albert Gonzalez, and making the score 5-1 Cougars. That lead would be short-lived, as the Red Storm exploded for 10 runs over the next two innings to take an 11-5 lead, which they held onto for the remainder of the game.
Travis Klocek got the start, but left with a no-decision, as he allowed 5 runs on 5 hits, while walking 3. Austin Prahl suffered the loss, allowing 6 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits.
In Game 2: After Rio Grande got on the board in the bottom of the 1st, Cleary would storm back with a 4 run second inning. Spencer Jamieson and Ethan Barclay led off the inning with walks (Zach Agemak would pinch run for Barclay), and advanced on a Marcel Garcia sacrifice bunt. After Jesnel Soto walked to load the bases, Caleb Buda drew another walk to score a run. A wild pitch would score Agemak, making it 2-1. Still in the 2nd, and after Kristian Scalf drew a walk, a fielder's choice would score Soto to make it 3-1. Another bases loaded walk drawn by Andrew Piloske advanced the runners to make the score 4-1. The Red Storm would narrow the deficit in the 3rd inning to 4-3, but the Cougars added an insurance run, when Ethan Hollister drew a bases loaded walk to score Marcel Garcia, and make the score 5-3.
