Cougars Recognized with WHAC Postseason Awards
(Lima, OH)-- (Complete Honors) - The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) announced its All-Conference Team, All-Academic Team, Gold Glove, and Champions of Character Teams for the 2022 baseball season.
Cleary's Anthony Lacle was named to the 2022 WHAC Gold Glove Team for his efforts playing defense. Lacle had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, with 39 put outs and 1 assist in 19 WHAC games. He finished the regular season with 62 put outs, 4 assists, and 0 errors for a fielding percentage of 1.000.
Members of the All-Academic Team must be a junior or above in academic standing with a cumulative 3.25 GPA while those on the Champions of Character Team best represent the five core character values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
Cleary had 20 student-athlets on the All-Academic Team. They were: Henry Bonette, Gabe Clark, Aaron Dyke, Kendall Flaugher, Colton Fountain, Zachary Freedman-Lloyd, Ethan Hollister, Noah Howard, Ryan Kadoguchi, Dawson Kling, Nick Koan, Garrett Larner, Cameron MacNeill, Kyle Miazgowicz, Gavin Nelson, Austin Prahl, Trey Ridgway, Jeremy VanOosterum, Brett Walcutt, and Lucas Withers.
Gabe Clark was this year's Cleary's representative on the WHAC's Champions of Character team.
Jake Collins of Cornerstone was named Player of the Year after hitting 12 home runs and leading the league with a .455 batting average. Lawrence Tech senior Alek Wietzyowski was named Pitcher of the Year with a 2.48 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 76.1 innings of work. Collins also earned Newcomer of the Year.
UNOH head coach Kory Hartman was voted as Coach of the Year as he led the Racers to a 19-3 WHAC record (32-11 overall) and the regular-season championship. Scott Kunert of Rochester was named Champions of Character Coach.
