(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougars ACHA Hockey team took on #12 Indiana Tech University Warriors to open up the 2025 year. The Cougars would drop both Friday and Saturday's games with scores of 4-1 and 7-1.
In Game 1 at Indiana Tech:
The Cougars would strike first and take advantage of an early penalty committed by the Warriors just 16 seconds into the game. Dylan Tammadge would get the game-opening goal with assists from Billy Simms and Brayden Goddard. The Cougars would find themselves with a penalty later in the period and Indiana Tech took advantage of it and tied the game at 1-1 after one period of play. The second period would go silent as both teams were unable to find the back of the net. Indiana Tech wouldn't let the game end with a tie though as they would go on to score three unanswered goals in the third period and pull away with a 4-1 win.
Nick Meyering (7-5) got the start in goal for the Cougars and would make 43 saves on 47 shots. Brayden Goddard's assist in the game is his first as a Cougar.
In Game 2 vs Indiana Tech:
Saturday evening turned out to be all Indiana Tech. The Warriors would open the game with three goals, one on the power play, one shorthanded, and one even goal. JC Garbacik looked to get the Cougars back into the game with a late goal in the first period to make it 3-1. Indiana Tech would take over the game from there and score the remaining four goals unanswered. Both teams would get in the penalty box by combing for 94 total penalty minutes between the two teams.
Vincent Parent (7-6) would suffer the loss in goal making 21 saves on 27 shots. Braeden Bzovey would get his first assist as a Cougar on the lone Cougar goal.
Cleary is now 15-11 and 10-6 in WHAC Conference play on the season. The Cougars are back in action next week as they take on the Concordia University Cardinals. Friday night's game will be played in Canton, while Saturday's game will be a home game at 140 Ice Den. Saturday's puck drop is set for 5:00 PM.
