Women's Soccer Extends Unbeaten Streak to Four Games With Draw at Siena Heights
(Adrian, MI)-- The Cleary women's soccer team's defense showed up for the fourth consecutive game Saturday, as the Cougars earned their third shutout in the last four games with a 0-0 draw against the Siena Heights Saints.
After withstanding the early push from the Saints in the opening minutes, Chelsea Waller would get behind the SHU backline to give the Cougars their first scoring chance. Waller would get to the ball first on the left side of the penalty area, made a move, and took a shot with her left foot. Unfortunately for the Cougars, the shot would be saved, and the game remained scoreless. Halfway through the half, Summer Morrill would put another shot on target from distance, but it was easily saved to keep the Cougars off the board. Both Morgan Vanos and Chelsea Waller would take a shot at goal, but their shots would go wide, and the score would stay 0-0 through the break.
In the second half, Siena Heights put their foot on the gas, and outshot the Cougars 14-2 in the final 45 minutes. Fortunately for the Cougars, only two of those shots would go on target, and Bella Marsh would make both saves down the stretch to earn her fifth shutout of the season, and third in the last four games, as the game ended with a 0-0 final score.
Bella Marsh made 5 saves on all 5 shots faced in the game. Cleary was outshot 23-6 in the contest, while making 5 saves to SHU's 3. The Cougars committed 14 fouls to the Saints' 8 in the game.
The four game unbeaten streak is the longest since the 2018-19 season when CU had a 7-game win streak.
Cleary is now 5-7-4 on the season, 1-4-4 in the WHAC. The Cougars will look to make it five in a row without a loss on Wednesday, October 22, when they travel to Defiance College to take on the Yellow Jackets. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM.
