(Sylvania, OH)-- The Cleary Cougar women's soccer team was on the road Wednesday, as they took on the Lourdes Gray Wolves in a WHAC contest.
The Cleary defense and goalkeeper Sara Mecomber were under pressure from the early goings of the game, but Mecomber made 4 first half saves to help keep the game scoreless after forty-five minutes of play.
The Gray Wolves would continue to put pressure on the Cougar defense, and got their break with thirty-two minutes left in the game. A cross into the box from the left flank was half cleared, but the Gray Wolves regained possession, made a move, and fired a shot from distance that was able to get into the back of the net to dig the Cougars into a deficit. Cleary would be unable to generate the offense down the stretch to find the equalizer, and the game would end with a 1-0 score.
Sara Mecomber was very good in goal, making 10 saves on 11 shots faced, and now holds an 0-2 record on the season.
Cleary falls to 4-6-1 on the year, and is now 0-3-1 in the WHAC. The Cougars will look to bounce back on Saturday, October 4, when they travel to Southfield to take on the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils. The game is set to begin at 7:00 PM.
