(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar women's soccer team welcomed the #21 UNOH Racers to Lake Trust Stadium Wednesday evening, and the weather would end the game prematurely.
UNOH would strike first in the 16th minute on a corner kick, where the header was able to beat Cleary's Bella Marsh into the net. In the 19th minute, the Racers added another goal off a rebound, and a third goal was scored in the 28th minute off a long free kick found a free header at the back post. Cleary's best chance came in the 30th minute, when Chelsea Waller got behind the Racer backline with space. She took a shot, but it was saved by the Racer goalkeeper, and Cleary was kept off the board. UNOH struck again in the 39th minute with a give and go down the right hand side, and put the game's final goal into the net with fifteen seconds remaining in the half, to give UNOH a 5-0 lead.
Minutes after the game restarted, lightning was determined in the area. After a short delay, the two teams resumed play just long enough for the game to reach the 70-minute mark before lightning struck again. A look at the radar determined the game would be called in the 71st minute of action, with UNOH leading 5-0.
Bella Marsh would made 4 saves in the game while suffering the loss in goal.
Cleary is now 4-5 overall, 0-2 in the WHAC. The Cougars will return to Lake Trust Stadium on Saturday, September 27, when they honor this year's seniors for Senior Day prior to their game against the UM-Dearborn Wolverines. The Senior Day festivities will begin at approximately 6:15, and the game will start at 7:00 PM.
