(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar women's soccer team was at home Saturday afternoon, taking on one of the WHAC's best, as the Siena Heights Saints were in town for a WHAC contest.
Siena Heights would score the game's first goal in the first minute, added a second off a Cleary turnover in the 7th minute, and their third goal in the 12th minute to take a commanding early lead. The Cougars would regain their composure and settled into the game, and their defense would play great the rest of the game. Siena Heights would take a 3-0 lead into the half.
In the second half's 63rd minute, Mariah Krone would set up teammate Evalyn Cole, who fired a shot from distance off the side-post, and into the net, cutting the Saint lead to 3-1. That would be the game's final goal, however, and the game would end by a 3-1 scoreline.
Tara McGrath made 8 saves on 11 shots faced in the game. Cleary was outshot 29-12 in the game, with Siena Heights holding an 11-5 advantage on shots on target. The goal was Cole's first of the season, and the assist was Krone's sixth.
The loss drops Cleary's record to 3-8-3 overall, 2-5-1 in the WHAC. The Cougars will play their fourth and final game out of four in a row at home on Wednesday, October 16, when they host the Madonna Crusaders in a WHAC battle. The game is set to begin at 7:00 PM.
