(Olivet, MI)-- It was a frustrating afternoon for the Cleary Cougar women's soccer team, as they outshot the host Olivet College Comets 24-14, but ultimately fell 2-0 Saturday afternoon in Olivet.
Olivet got things going first, as a direct pass got behind the Cougars defense, and then was centered with only the Cougars' Kara Donaldson to beat, and gave the Comets an early 1-0 lead. That lead held into the haftime break. Cleary was able to have multiple chances to tie the game, and possibly go ahead, as they had six separate occasions where they only had the goalie to beat, but were unable to come away with anything. With Cleary pushing forward and trying to find a late equalizer, the Comets countered and found the nail in the coffin, as the hosts went up 2-0, and secured the victory.
Kara Donaldson took the loss in goal, and her record is now 1-2-0 on the season. Chelsea Hendra led Cleary with 4 shots on goal, while Felicia Moseley added 3 shots on goal.
Cleary outshot Olivet 24-14, with 10 shots on goal for Cleary to Olivet's 6. Both teams earned two corner kicks apiece.
The Cougars will close out non-conference action with a trip to Circleville, Ohio next Saturday, September 17, when they take on the Ohio Christian Trailblazers. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM.
