Cougars Recognized in WHAC Postseason Awards
(Howell, MI)-- (Complete Honors) - The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) released the 2022 season honors for women's lacrosse. All-Conference Teams and individual special honors were voted on by the head coaches in the league.
Cleary's Mallory Tognetti was named to Second Team All-Conference after leading the Cougars with 20 goals and 8 assists to total 28 points. She also had 43 ground balls, 32 draw controls, and caused 15 turnovers.
In addition to First and Second Team All-Conference, the WHAC also announced its All-Academic Team (juniors or above in academic standing with cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and in attendance at nominating school for one full year) and the Champions of Character Team (best represents the five core character values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership).
Tognetti, along with teammates Georgia Price and Alexandria Zimmerman, were also named to the WHAC's All-Academic Team. Alexandria Zimmerman was also Cleary's recipient of the Champions of Character award.
Abby Barkdull of Indiana Tech earned Offensive Player of the Year honors as she tallied 60 goals and 23 assists. Marissa Cirino of Siena Heights was voted as Midfielder of the Year after scoring 51 goals and handing out 27 assists. Aquinas' Carli Taylor earned Defensive Player of the Year with 42 ground balls and 44 draw controls while causing 35 turnovers. Lawrence Tech freshman Hannah Huebner was awarded Newcomer of the Year with 24 goals and 23 assists.
Coach of the Year was awarded to Mary Ann Meltzer of Lawrence Tech after she lead the Blue Devils to the regular-season title. Bethel head coach Jeremy Brown repeated as the Champions of Character Coach.
