Crusaders Give Cleary a WHAC Loss on Rainy Wednesday Evening
(Howell, MI)-- The rain and lightning prevented the Cleary women's lacrosse game from starting at it's scheduled time, and when it finally did start, the Madonna Crusaders dominated for a 16-4 victory.
Madonna would get things going, scoring the game's first three goals to take a 3-0 lead, but Mallory Tognetti would get the Cougars on the scoreboard when she scored unassisted with just over six minutes to go in the quarter. Two minutes later, after a Madonna card, Georgia Price would score (assisted by Mallory Tognetti) to cut the deficit to 3-2. Madonna would get one more goal with just over two minutes left in the quarter to take a 4-2 lead after 15 minutes.
The two teams would trade goals to start the second quarter, with Cleary's goal coming from Alana Harrison (assisted by Kendal David). Madonna would then go on a little run, scoring three unanswered goals before Mallory Tognetti scored her second goal of the evening. Unfortunately, that would be the last Cougar goal, and Madonna would finish off the half with five unanswered goals to go into the half with a 13-4 lead. Madonna would score almost immediately in the third quarter, and would add two more goals before the third quarter would end, and the game would be called after three quarters due to inclement weather.
Mallory Tognetti led the way with two goals and an assist, while Kennedy Stilson made eight saves in net.
Cleary will next be in action on Saturday, March 26, when they travel to Fort Wayne to take on the Indiana Tech Warriors. The game is scheduled to start at 11:00 AM
