(Lansing, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar women's basketball team returned to Lansing for a home game Wednesday evening, but ultimately lost to the first place Indiana Tech Warriors 77-36.
Cleary would open the game with back to back layups from Jess Andrew and Evalyn Cole to lead 4-0. A Samantha Hoelscher layup would keep the lead at four with a 6-2 score. Indiana Tech would tie the game at 8-8, but a Caitlyn Rayl layup gave the Cougars back the lead. After the Warriors tied the game at 10-10, the visitors would take the lead, finishing the quarter with a 17-12 advantage.
The Warrior run would continue in the second quarter, as they outscored the Cougars 24-5 in the period, and sending the two teams into the half with a 41-17 score. Though the Cougars fought to the final horn, they would not be able to climb back into the game, as Indiana Tech handed Cleary their fourth loss in the last five games.
Jess Andrew was the only Cougar to reach double-digit scoring, and led the team with 13 points and 6 assists. Samantha Hoelscher would add 8 points and 10 rebounds.
The loss drops Cleary's record to 11-12 overall, 9-8 in the WHAC. The Cougars will be on the road for a game Saturday with playoff implications, as they'll take on the Siena Heights Saints. That game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM.
