(Williamsburg, KY)-- The Cleary Cougar softball team wrapped up their trip to Kentucky with another double-header, as they took on the Trinity Christian Trolls and the Cumberlands Patriots Friday.
In Game 1 vs. Trinity Christian: After Gabrielle Monreal reached on an error in the third, Mckenzie Latshaw tripled to left center to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. Latshaw would score two batters later when Jessica Garmen doubled down the right field line to make it 2-0 Cleary. Trinity Christian would score a pair of runs to tie the game in the bottom of the 6th inning, but Cleary would respond in the top of the 7th. Mia Rzepka would single up the middle to lead off the inning, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Rzepka would score on the next at bat, when Mckenzie Latshaw reached safely due to an error, and Rzepka came around to score, beating the tag at home plate. Sonya Terleckyj would pick up the win in relief, as she allowed 0 runs in 1.2 innings thrown. Halle Dargie got the start, and allowed 1 run on 5 hits in 5 innings.
Cleary would get multi-hit games from Kate Currie and Madi Best, while Mckenzie Latshaw would get 2 RBI in the game. The win in game one was the first for head coach Jamey Lobdell at the helm of Cleary softball.
In Game 2 vs. Cumberlands: The #3 ranked Patriots would score a run in the 1st, and added three insurance runs in the 5th to take a 4-0 lead. Cleary struggled to get the bats going, as they only had four hits in the game, as Cumberlands went on to win 4-0. Sonya Terleckyj would suffer the loss, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits in 4.1 innings. Cleary would get hits from Kate Currie, Maddie Bunkoske, Jenna Wagenschutz, and Grace Pasterik.
The Cougars are 1-3 on the season, and will be back in action in March, when they play in the Space Coast Games in Cocoa Beach, Florida.
