Duffey's Stellar Game 2 Helps Softball Split With UM-Dearborn

(Howell, MI)—The Cougars hosted The University of Michigan Dearborn Wolverines this afternoon. The Cougars fell short to the Wolverines in game one with the score being 9-1. Cleary stole game 2 adding their third conference win of the season with a 2-0 score.
In Game 1: The Cougars struggled to contain Dearborn early on, and couldn't come up with the offense to match that of the Wolverines. Sonya Terleckyj started the game and was relieved in the 5th by Halle Dargie. Terleckyj took the loss, allowing 6 earned runs while on the mound.
The Cougars collected four hits in the first game, with Courtney Ture leading the team and going 2-for-2 at the plate. Cleary's other two hits were collected by Gabby Monreal and Mia Rzepka.
In Game 2: The Cougars jumped on the Wolverines, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. One more run would be scored by the Cougars when Maddie Bunkoske singled to bring home Grace Pasterik. These two runs were enough to shut out Dearborn, giving Caitlynn Duffey her third win of the season. Duffey threw all 7 innings, striking out 8.
The Cougars bested the Wolverines offense collecting 7 hits to their 4. Ture had another great game going 2-for-3 at the plate. Bunkoske also went 2-for-3 in the second game, with an RBI in the bottom of the sixth.
The Cougars will be at the Lake again for their next double-header, taking on Madonna University on Saturday, April 15th, with game 1 starting at 1pm.
