Wrestling Opens Season at the Pepsi Patriot Open

(Williamsburg, KY)-- The Cleary University wrestling team opened up their 2023 campaign, as they wrestled at the Pepsi Patriot Open hosted by the University of the Cumberlands.
- In the 133 lb. division, Seth Justin by a fall in his opening match, but lost his second round matchup to go into the consolation bracket. In his third round match, he won by decision (8-4), but was forced to withdraw due to an injury in his fourth match. He went 2-1 before the medical forfeit, and earned 3.5 points.
- Carson Boisvert advanced on a bye in his first 149 lb. match, but was pinned in each of his next two matches to be eliminated from open play.
- Ty Johnson made it to the 157 championship match, going 4-1 on the day. He won his first round match by technical fall (18-1), pinned his second round opponent in just 1:19, advaning to championship bracket play. In the quarterfinals, he earned another technical fall (15-0), and pinned his semifinal opponent in 3:13. He faced Gray Ortis from Bellarmine in the championship match, but dropped a major decision, and finished in 2nd place overall.
- Lenton Patrick would go 1-2 on the day, as he dropped his 2nd round match and earned a pin in the consolation round 3 in 4:49. After advancing on medical forfeith, he was pinned in the consolation 5th round.
- Wyatt Clements dropped his first match via technical fall, earned a pin in 4:09 in the consolation round, but lost a decision in his next match to go 1-2 on the day.
- Zander Bradsher won his first match via decision 17-14, but lost his second match by technical fall, and his third match by pin to go 1-2 on the day.
No team score was earned due to the event being scored as an individual open.
Cleary will have some time off before being back on the mats on Sunday, November 19th, when they participate in the Albion Open.
