Wrestling Suffers Pair of Defeats in WHAC Tri-Dual at Rochester
(Rochester, MI)-- The Cleary Cougars wrestling team went on the road, and suffered a pair of defeats in a WHAC tri-dual meet, held at Rochester University Tuesday evening.
Vs. RV Cornerstone
Cleary had only three available wrestlers for this match, as Cornerstone would go on to earn forfeit victories in 7 weight classes.
- In the 133 lb. weight class, Ryan Weaver wrestled the match of the evening, as he faced Devan Johnson of the Golden Eagles. Johnson earned early points with two takedowns, and almost gave Weaver a fall in the 1st period. Weaver responded with two escapes and two takedowns of his own, but was unable to earn the pin or enough points for the match victory, as he lost 11-10.
- Anthony Wilson would earn a forfeit victory in the 149 lb. division (6 points)
- Roberto Perez made his Cleary debut in the heavyweight division, but suffered a fall after 6:14 minutes of action to Cornerstone's Sterling McLaughlin.
Cleary would lose 51-6 to the Golden Eagles
Vs. RV Rochester
Once again, Cleary would only be able to submit three wrestlers, with Rochester earning forfeit victories in 7 weight classes.
- In the 133 lb. division, Ryan Weaver suffered a fall defeat in 2:49 to Rochester's Dylan Coleman
- RU's Anthony Gonzalez was able to pin Anthony Wilson in 2:16 in the 149 lb. division
- Roberto Perez would lose by a 4-1 decision to the Warriors' Jackson Schenk.
Rochester would win the match 57-0.
Cleary will be back in action on Thursay, January 12, when they travel to Adrian to take on the Siena Heights Saints in a dual matchup. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM.
