Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season With Triangular Meet at Olivet

(Olivet, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar track & field team opened up the 2024 outdoor season with a trinagular meet against the Adrian College Bulldogs and the University of Olivet Comets Saturday afternoon in Olivet.
In the Men's Meet:
- Christian Hammond and Matt Booth finished 6th and 7th respectively in the 100 M, with times of 13.26 and 14.49
- Hammond and Booth would also run in the 400 M, with Hammond taking 5th place with a time of 53.69. Booth would run a 57.93, while Camden Staples ran a 59.28
- In the 800 M, Camden Staples led the Cougars with a time of 2:10.31 to finish in 5th. Ethan Beres would run a 2:13.08, and finished in 6th
- Ethan Beres would win the 1500 M with a time of 4:26.97, setting a new personal record, and defeating the next finisher by 3 seconds
- Jerome Ellis and Logan Rogers would take 3rd and 4th in the shot put, with throws of 11.55 and 10.40 resepctively
- Ellis would also take 5th in the discus with a throw of 36.04, while Rogers threw 32.69, and Jacob Haley threw a 28.30 to finish in 8th
- Jacob Haley would finish in 7th in the javelin with athrow of 34.33
- Logan Rogers finished in 4th in the hammer throw with a distance of 34.30
As a team, Cleary finished in third place in the meet.
In the Women's Meet:
- Lauren Gores would finish in 2nd place in the 800 M with a personal record time of 2:30.63. Teammate Jillian Clark finished in 11th
- Gores would also finish in 2nd in the 1500 M with a time of 5:03.86, also a personal record
- In the shot put, Carlee Beeney threw 10.28 M and finished in 2nd
- Beeney would win the discus with a distance of 38.11
- Amelia Jason threw the javelin 18.53 M and finished in 7th
- Carlee Beeney would finish in 2nd in the hammer throw, after throwing a distance of 26.13 M
As a team, Cleary would finish in third place.
The Cougars will be back in action next Friday, April 12, when they run in the Chippewa Invitational hosted by Central Michigan University.
