(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar men's soccer team traded goals all night with the Olivet Comets, and the two teams would both tally three goals, as the game ended with a 3-3 scoreline.
Lesman Morazan would score his fifth goal of the season just past the halfway mark of the opening half, when Marcel Zanchin slid a threw ball up the right hand side to Morazan, who powered the ball into the net from a tight angle to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. Olivet would equalize for the first time late in the first half when a penalty was called on the Cougars, and the Comets would convert, tying the game at 1-1 going into the break.
In the second half, Cleary took the lead again, this time on a free kick. With Lesman Morazan standing over the ball, his kick went through the wall and past the Comet goalie, giving Cleary a 2-1 lead. Olivet answered again just 5 minutes later to tie the game again, this time at 2-2. Cleary would score their third goal of the game on a corner kick in the 66th minute. Brandon Tracy delivered a ball into the box, and a Comet clearance found the head of Jack Heald, who knocked it in, giving Cleary the 3-2 advantage. Desperate for an equalizer, Olivet pushed numbers forward, and found their moment in the 89th minute, after a clearance attempt didn't make it out of the box, and instead found the foot of a Comet player who vollied it past Diego Amezola-Orozco.
Diego Amezola-Orozco made 4 saves on 7 shots, as his record is now 2-2-1 on the year. Olivet outshot Cleary 11-10, while both teams had 5 corner kicks in the game. Lesman Morazan now leads the team with 6 goals on the season, while Jack Heald picked up his third goal of the season.
Cleary is now 2-3-1 on the year, and will be back at Lake Trust Stadium on Tuesday, September 19, when they host the Adrian College Bulldogs. Kick-off is set for 7:00 PM.
