Men's Bowling Wins First Ever Tournament; Clark & Polega Earn First Individually
(Canton, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar men's and women's bowling teams returned to the lanes Saturday and Sunday, as they bowled in the AHBA #1 and #2 tournaments, both at Super Bowl in Canton.
In Saturday's AHBA #1
In the Men's Meet:
- AJ Clark WON the meet with a total of 1,347 pins. He bowled games of 237-196-207-256-205-246 to average 224.5
- Ethan Parker would bowl games of 225-224195-203-232-204 to finish in 7th place
- With games of 279-183-220-191-191-201 was Ryan Ching, who finished in 8th place
- Bryce Owens bowled in five games, and had scores of 205-212-191-180-162, and finished in 58th place
- Tyler Koehn bowled in three games, and had scores of 247-162-224 to finish in 98th
The win came down to the last frame of the last game. Tyler Koehn needed the first strike in the 10th frame and good pin count to secure the win. Tyler laced 3 strikes in the 10th to beat LTU by 21 pins!
As a team, Cleary knocked down 6,280 pins and finished in 1st place. It was the first time in program history that the men's bowling team won a tournament.
In the Women's Meet:
- Grace Polega WON with a total of 1,196 pins. She had games of 171-240-158-195-237-195 to average 199.33
- Earning a 23rd place finish was Courtney Witten, with games of 177-163-178-189-179-173
- Olivia Solomon would bowl a six-game series of 201-179-193-168-155-136 to finish in 28th
- Bowling in four games was Katherine Stephens. She finished with scores of 191-146-194-161
As a team, Cleary knocked down 5,182 pins, and finished in 7th place.
In Sunday's AHBA #2
In the Men's Meet:
- Ryan Ching would bowl three games of 247-205-209 to finish in 7th place and lead the Cougars
- Howie Hammond finished in 15th with games of 213-212-204
- Finishing in 23rd was Ethan Parker, who bowled games of 184-197-236
- AJ Clark bowled games of 200-182-232, and finished in 25th
- Rounding out the Cougars was Tyler Koehn, who bowled games of 164-179-199
As a team, Cleary knocked down 5,885 pins, and finished in 5th place
In the Women's Meet:
- Courtney Witten would lead the way with a three-game series of 204-201-174 to finish in 8th place
- Finishin in 17th was Olivia Solomon, who bowled games of 193-161-196
- Katherine Stephens would bowl games of 185-164-175 to finish in 25th
- Grace Polega would finish in 30th with games of 188-153-163
As a team, Cleary knocked down 5,179 pins, and finished in 6th place
Both teams will be back in action this Saturday, November 1 when they participate in the WHAC's Great Lakes Open at Imperial Lanes in Clinton Township.
