Quote from head coach Hayley Dann:
"Overall, we had a solid weekend on the lanes at our first pair of AHBA conference tournaments this weekend. The women really shined as they had their highest overall team average for the season in AHBA # 1, then beat it again in AHBA # 2 today! Samantha Dulz bowled exceptionally well, as she placed 3rd at AHBA # 1 and 7th at AHBA #2, averaging 206.3 for both events. She matched up well to both oil patterns. Leigha Rue earned her second top 3 finish of the season, clenching 3rd in AHBA # 2 today with an average of 214.75. These ladies have really come together and are improving at each tournament. They show true grit and stamina, having a smaller roster this year. They never give up and make the best of each time they're out on the lanes. We are very proud of their growth and feel that these ladies are really starting to find their groove.
On the men's side, we had a slow start on Saturday in AHBA # 1. We never quite found a good rhythm and just grinded most of the day. It was a true team effort by all 8 players. Today, in AHBA # 2, we only traveled 6 players due to injury and some other outside factors. We knew that we were going to have to dig a little deeper and fight a little harder with a smaller bench, and these guys sure came out on fire. We had our highest team game of the season with a 1018 (203.6 avg). We then followed it up with our second highest set of the season, 1004. Three of our guys bowled fantastic today! Freshman Trevor Cockerill led the Cougars averaging 215.3. Trevor has had some good moments throughout the season, but today he was given a true chance to step up, and he did with confidence. Sophomore Corey Goldsmith finished right up there with Trevor, averaging 214. This was another great performance by Corey, as he finished 5th at our first tournament of the season. Senior Alex Lewis averaged 206.8, exemplifying that with experience also comes consistency. I am so proud of these guys, and we have seen nothing but incredible growth since the start of the season.
We're learning so much each time we get a chance to compete. I truly cannot wait to see how we will continue to grow and thrive as the season continues.Go Cougars! #WeAreOne"
