Bio
Coach Grant Long joined the Cleary men's basketball staff as an assistant coach for the 2023-24 season. Long, a 15-year NBA veteran, was a teammate of head coach Carl Thomas' at Eastern Michigan from 1987-88.
Long was taken in the 2nd round of the 1988 NBA Draft after a stellar career at EMU. He was a two-time All-MAC selection (1987 & 1988), and was the MAC Player of the Year in 1988, and is one of four Eagles to have their number retired by the program, joining Earl Boykins, George Gervin, and Kennedy McIntosh.
In the NBA, Long played for the Miami Heat, the Atlanta Hawks, the Detroit Pistons, the Vancouver/Memphis Grizzlies, and the Boston Celtics. He played in 1,003 games, and held a career 9.5 points per game to go with 6.1 rebounds per game. After retiring from playing, Long began a career in broadcasting, and can be seen on the Detroit Pistons' broadcasts on Bally Sports.
