March 27, 2023
(Howell, MI)-- Here is the recap for Cleary esports for the week of March 20:
Our Rocket League team played a double header on Monday, facing off against Fanshawe College and Grand Valley State University C. Cleary started with a quick 3-0 win over Fanshawe, and just an hour later took another win in a close 3-2 series against GVSU. Cleary Rocket League finished the regular season 6-1 overall in their division, securing the 2nd seed and a first round bye heading into playoffs. They play in their divisional semifinals on Monday April 10th!
Our Overwatch 2 team played their final WHAC regular season game on Monday against Indiana Tech. Unfortunately Cleary fell to Indiana Tech 0-3, finishing the regular season 3-4 overall, and tied in the standings with Lawrence Tech. However, since LTU beat Cleary earlier in the season, LTU secured the 4th seed overall, moving Cleary to the 5th seed. We will be playing LTU in the first round of the WHAC Finals playoffs happening at Cleary on Saturday April 1st!
Our Valorant team played their final match of the NACE regular season on Wednesday, facing off against the University of Maryland. After a solid 2-0 win, Cleary Valorant moved to 4-3 on the season and into a 4 way tie. Cleary came out on top of the tiebreakers claiming the 3rd seed overall in the division moving into playoffs this week. Cleary Valorant will play their first playoff match Wednesday, March 27th, against George Mason University.
Our Call of Duty A team finished out their regular season on Wednesday, against fellow top team Keiser University - Pembroke Pines. After a commanding 3-0 win, Cleary Call of Duty finished their season a perfect 6-0, and more impressively took all 6 wins in 3-0 fashion, not losing a single map throughout the season. They take the top spot in their division and a first round bye heading into their NACE playoff run. Call of Duty A will be playing again Wednesday, April 12th!
Cleary Call of Duty B also finished their regular season up this past week, facing off against the top team in their division, Lebanon Valley College. Unfortunately Cleary fell 0-3, finishing their NACE regular season at 2-4, and just sneaking into the playoff picture. They will be playing their first divisional playoff match Wednesday, March 29th, against Keiser University - Point Park.
Finally, our League of Legends team had the busiest week of all. On Monday, they played their last regular season WHAC match against Siena Heights University, taking a quick 2-0 win. This secured Cleary's undefeated regular season at 7-0 and guarantees us the top seed heading into the WHAC Finals playoffs being hosted at Cleary University on Saturday April 1st. Cleary League of Legends also played three regular season NACE league matches, one on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, against Truman State University, University of Missouri, and Cornell College respectively. Cleary won all three matches in a 2-0 fashion to start the NACE regular season off 3-0. Cleary League of Legends will play two more NACE matches this coming week, one on Tuesday and one on Thursday, as they look to extend their undefeated WHAC season into their NACE season as well!
As mentioned above, this weekend, Saturday April 1st and Sunday April 2nd, Cleary will be hosting the WHAC Finals playoffs live at the Cleary Commons building. Entry is free for anyone who wishes to spectate, so come support the Cleary Cougars Overwatch and League of Legends teams as they fight to win WHAC titles on home turf!
