Baseball Shut Out by Concordia, Drops to Elimination Bracket
(Grand Rapids, MI) -- The Cleary Cougars Baseball team opened up the WHAC Conference Playoff Tournament this afternoon as they took on the 2-seed Concordia University Cardinals.
The Cougars got an early threat on the base paths in the first and third innings with at least one runner in scoring position, but were unable to score. The momentum would shift in Concordia's favor as they would have a monster third inning. Concordia went on to score eight runs in the inning, highlighted by a three-run home run. The Cougars once again had runners on in the fourth and fifth innings but were unable to execute to score any runs. Concordia went on to score two more runs in the fifth and hit a solo home run in the sixth to increase their lead to 11-0. The score would stand, and the game would end after 7 innings of play with the Cougars going down 1-2-3 in the seventh.
The Cougars' loss will put them in the elimination bracket either against the 3-seed Indiana Tech Warriors or the 6-seed Lawrence Tech Blue Devils. That game will start at 1 PM tomorrow at Cornerstone University. If the Cougars win, they will play once again in the elimination bracket tomorrow at the Meijer Sports Complex. First pitch time for that game is TBD.
