(McKenzie, TN)-- The Cleary Cougars played another pair of games vs. the Bethel Wildcats on Saturday, and each team would take one of the games.
In Game 1: The Cleary offense was held completely in check, as the Wildcats' Marco Santa would throw a complete game no-hitter. Cleary's Jacob Savina threw an impressive complete game of his own, as he allowed 2 runs (1 earedn) on 4 hits while striking out 3 in the loss.
In Game 2: A Zach Agemak single led off the game, and Ben Cerven would bring Agemak home on a single two batters later to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. Cleary would add another run in the 2nd, when Andrew Piloske reached on an error, and was brought home on a Marcel Garcia double, doubling the Cougar lead. Cleary added two more runs in the 3rd to really expand their lead. Buda would steal second, follwed by a Spencer Jamieson walk, and Andrew Piloske doubled home both runners to make it 4-0. Cleary scored their final run in the 5th inning. Ben Cerven doubled to lead off the inning, and was advanced to third base on a groundout. Andrew Piloske would reach on an error, but Cerven's run would count, and make it 5-0. The Wildcats would make it intersting in the bottom of the 6th, but Cleary was able to hold on for the 5-4 victory.
Lucas Withers went 4.1 innings, allowing 1 hit while striking out 3. Haden Fisk entered the game in relief, allwing 4 runs on 6 hits in 2.2 innings.
Cleary is now 4-2 after splitting the 4-game series with Bethel. The Cougars will be back in action next weekend when they travel to southern Ohio to take on the Rio Grande Red Storm in a 4-game series. Game 1 is scheduled for 12 PM on Saturday, Feburary 18.
