Karl Kling
Head Coach - 4th Season
Alma Mater: Concordia University

Karl Kling enters his fourth season at the helm of the Cleary University baseball team. 

In the programs inaugural season in 2015, the Cougars finished 17-27. In year two, the team improved to a 20-27 mark, but with the nations second toughest schedule, the team was invited to the USCAA Small College World Series as the #8 seed in the nine-team tournament. The Cougars finished 2-2, including an elimination game victory over defending national champion The Apprentice School.
In the program's third year in 2017, the Cougars finished the year with 23 wins while also finishing 3-2 at the USCAA National Tournament losing one game away from the national title game. The Cougars had four players named to the All-American team with senior Reid Beffrey earning 1st Team, juniors John Grable and Nick Hoogerhyde earning 2nd Team, and senior Mickey Montpas earning Honorable Mention. Cleary also had 13 players earning a spot on the National All-Academic team, leading the nation.
Prior to starting the program at Cleary, Coach Kling spent the 2013 season as the pitching coach at NCAA Division II Saginaw Valley State University.
Kling served two years as an assistant coach at Concordia University in Ann Arbor in 2002-03, before becoming the Cardinals head coach for seven seasons. Prior to Kling, Concordia averaged seven wins a season in their history and the all-time leader in wins had 76 in nine seasons during the 80s. In Kling's seven season, Concordia won 150 games.
After leading Concordia at the conclusion of the 2010 season, Kling and his wife Debra, opened Michigan Sports Academy-Livingston in Howell.  The 12,000-foot indoor center focuses on baseball and softball training for hundreds of area athletes through memberships, lessons, camps, clinics, team practices or playing on one of the 14 MSA summer teams.
During the 2011 and 2012 seasons, Kling served as head coach at Fowlerville High School, guiding the Gladiators to the 2012 Division title. Prior to his time at Concordia, Kling served as pitching coach for South Lyon High School in 2000 and 2001; and six seasons at Pontiac Notre Dame Prep High school in various positions, helping the Irish win the 1996 Catholic League title.
Kling has served on the USCAA Baseball Committee, was Chair of the WHAC Baseball Coaches Association for two seasons, worked as a guest coach or speaker for camps run by Michigan State University, Eastern Michigan University, Grand Valley State University, Wayne State University, the Traverse City Beach Bums and the national showcases in Omaha and Myrtle Beach for Triple Crown. 
Kling has been married to his wife Debra for 19 years. They have three sons: Hayden, a freshman at Cleary who will serve as the teams student manager; Dawson, a junior at Howell High School; and Ethan, a seventh-grader at Highlander Way Middle School. The family resides in Howell and attends Heart of the Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Doug Grable
Assistant Coach - 4th Season

Doug Grable is in his fourth season as Assistant Coach for Cleary University baseball.

The former Fowlerville High School standout has been an assistant coach with head coach Karl Kling for the past six seasons, serving with him previously at Fowlerville High School for two seasons and with Kling's Michigan Sports Academy - Livingston summer teams for three seasons. 

Coach Grable oversees the outfielders, serves as the first base coach and assists with the hitters at Cleary. 

Jeff Edwards
Assistant Coach - 4th Season

Jeff Edwards is in his fourth season as Assistant Coach at Cleary University. Edwards had been a high school coach for over 20 years before his accepting his position on Coach Kling's staff. 

Previously to Cleary, Edwards was an assistant coach at Howell High School for several years. Prior to that, Edwards oversaw the Willow Run High School program in Ypsilanti as head coach. 

At Cleary, Edwards serves as bench coach as well as assisting with the coordination of the programs volunteer efforts.

Mark Henkel
Assistant Coach - 1st Season
Alma Mater: Siena Heights University

M.B. Henkel is in his first season as Assistant Coach at Cleary University. At Cleary, Henkel will serve as the bench coach for the varsity team, head coach for the junior varsity and work directly with the Cougar catching corps.

Prior to coming to Cleary, Henkel worked for two years at Madonna University as an outfielder and assistant hitting coach. In 2016, the team won the conference and conference tournament.

Previously, he worked two years at Wayne State University. There, he served as a bench coach, bullpen coach, base running instructor and catching instructor. With his help, WSU earned the conference title in 2008. During this time, he also helped to train the 2011 Division II Defensive Player of the Year, catcher Mike Wiseman. Moreover, he had five players move on to play professional baseball: one of them, Anthony Bass, is currently a member of the Texas Rangers MLB roster.

He has also been a personal baseball instructor and an assistant coach for the varsity baseball team at Huron High School in Ann Arbor, Mich. He coached twelve all-district players as well as one all-state player, and he helped lead the 2006 squad to secure district and regional titles.

Henkel has professional baseball experience, having spent time in the minor league systems of the Houston Astros and Baltimore Orioles, as well as in the Mexican Leagues.

Henkel attended Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, Calif., where he played baseball and is a member of the school’s hall of fame. He is also a member of the Michigan and Ohio High School Coaches Association, the Buck O’Neil’s Scout & Coaches Association, as well as the American Baseball Coaches Association. Henkel recently completed his degree at Siena Heights University as well
