(Sept. 30, 2017 - Louisville, KY) -- Of the 305 runners in the field Saturday afternoon, Madison Paquette (Jr. - Highland, Mich.) had only one ahead of her and a little more than a second prevented her from passing the leader as she finished second with a time of 18:35.90, with Anais Da Silva of Vincennes College finishing at 18:34.22.

While Paquette was in hot pursuit of the individual championship, two other Cougar runners were fighting for a top 25 finish and both succeeded as Natasha Stevenson (Sr. - Canton, Mich.) and Aleighsha Engisch (Sr. - Linden, Mich.) were 22nd and 23rd, respectively. Stevenson posted a time of 19:52.10 with Engisch at 19:53.63.

Breunisje Kass-McGrady (Jr. - Ravenna, Mich.) just missed a sub-20-minute mark as she crossed at 20:13.60, to finish 40th overall while Alyssa Lane (Fr. - Byron, Mich.) was 251st at 23:46.42.

"Overall the girls ran very well," said head coach Sarah Boyle. "We set goal of finishing in the top ten and these ladies went to work and came out 7th. We almost had an individual champion and exceeded our top 10 goal and we are excited about that. We will continue to build on this momentum and are looking forward to Muskegon in 2 weeks."

After the Muskegon Jayhawl Invitational on Oct. 13, the women will race the following week at the Eastern Michigan University Open before they look to defend their national title at the USCAA Cross Country National Championship in November in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
